How to use social media & #trends to boost your print marketing

Budget is always the most significant deciding factor when considering jumping on the trend train. As your business grows you’ll have more opportunities to say yes. But when you’re starting out it’s important to understand when to pass.

Face swapping apps are hugely popular right now with young people, celebrities and brands with their finger on the pulse of digital marketing.

Netflix in France harnessed this face swapping trend while it was at its peak, in order to make their poster campaign work and travel the digital realms for even more exposure. For Netflix’s campaign they printed our large, high quality images of characters from their shows – large enough to have faces to scale. This required an ability to spend on both the great quality posters and the advertising space to display them. In major cities especially, where the foot traffic needed for face swapping is highest, advertising space costs are significantly higher.

Use top trends on your poster prints

Cheaper alternatives to big print campaigns can be found by using your social media. A responsive social media team will be able to find the most popular (and relevant) trending topics and find a way to bridge it with your product or service. This can be fed through to print campaigns, using commonly used hashtags in your branding at events. I.e. Industry related hashtags at business conferences to show you’re part of the online conversation, such as #powerofprint.

Which social media platforms are best suited for b2b or b2c??

Different industries find better success on certain social media platforms. Content works for Twitter and Pinterest is perfect for ecommerce. In order to be successful in a trend based campaign you need to understand how your business will be received and suited to certain platforms and audiences.

Many B2C businesses will have more success on Instagram than a B2B will. So it makes sense for your print campaigns aimed at customers to include your Instagram handle or examples of your photos. Entice them to find and follow you.

B2B businesses may find a surprising amount of success on Facebook – especially if using targeted ads or LinkedIn, where the audience is already pre-disposed to professional networking. At conferences or business networking events, highlight these platforms on your printed branding: business cards, flyers.

Print campaigns should always be tailored to the audiences, and with so much of a potential customer’s time spent on social media, it makes sense to join the two. Just remember to pick and choose the most relevant #trends and platforms and definitely do not use them all.
